My interest in music began at the age of six with my first violin lessons. Later, I turned to piano, drum and trombone and played in many classical, jazz and rock groups. My band experience led to studio sessions where I developed my interest in professional sound recording. In secondary school I started mixing live shows and recording the music of friends in my personal studio. This studio has since grown, increasing my interest in the recording equipment I use. Later, when I had the opportunity to work with Sound Engineers in professional studios, I was strongly encouraged to follow a career in the field of audio. In the early years of my Electrical Engineering degree, I read all I could find on topics related to digital audio. My interest finally led me to my undergraduate final project: The Design and Implementation of a Digital Multi-Effect Processor. I used both the VST plug-in architecture and the Motorola DSP56002 programming platforms. In this project, I performed a real-time implementation of chorus, flange, echo, reverberation, and compression effects while comparing the two programming platforms.
As part of my Master's degree in Music Engineering I currently work for Discreet Logic in Montreal, Canada as an audio software developer. I work mostly on digital signal processing algorithms, as well as on the company's proprietary mixing and waveform engines. I am also the proud owner of Crawford Studio where I have worked as a Recording Engineer for many years. |
